How should a 60-year-old retired person invest a large inheritance in an index fund?

When I say the inheritance is "large", I mean that it is many tens of thousands of dollars. And when I ask "how", I am basically asking what type of account it should be (since it won’t qualify to be put into an IRA, for example).

Thanks!
a standard brokerage account is good enough.

The tax in your example is theoretically not payable by your parents, but it would be payable by you. However if you did not earn the [...]
